Solvent Violet 9

purple for water and purple for ethanol. It is red light yellow in concentrated sulfuric acid, dark green light yellow after dilution, then blue and purple. The violet precipitates in the aqueous solution of dye with sodium hydroxide.

Methods: (a) tetramethylmichaelis ketone was condensed with N, N-dimethylaniline and phosphorus trichloride to form free base; (b) n, N-dimethylaniline reacted with phosgene in the presence of zinc chloride to form free base; (c) tetramethylmichaelis alcohol was condensed with N, N-dimethylaniline, and then the product was oxidized to form free base.

It is mainly used for coloring carbon paper, low-grade ballpoint pen ink and stationery. It has the same chemical structure as C.I.Basic violet 3 and c.i.segment violet 39.
