Solvent dyes mainly include azo type (monoazo and bisazo), azo metal  complex type, triarylmethane free bases, anthraquinones, acyl Cyanines (copper phthalocyanine, aluminum phthalocyanine) and heterocycles, etc. they are almost all kinds of structure types in dye chemistry. Like organic pigments, the color performance of solvent dyes depends on their chemical structure and end use.

For the solvent dyes used in the pre- spinning colouring of engineering plastics and chemical fibers, the necessary heat resistance should be considered The requirements of sublimation resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, solvent resistance and oil resistance, as well as the light (weather) resistance, friction resistance, chemical resistance and bright color required by the product after coloring, are not applicable to all solvent dyes. At present, the types and varieties of solvent dyes are as follows.           
The most solvent dyes are Allium, including blue, green, purple, yellow, orange and red. Anthraquinone solvent dyes are very stable. Although their solubility is slightly worse than azo solvent dyes, their light and heat resistance are better than azo dyes. Therefore, onion dyes play an important role in plastic colouring.           
Allium solvent dye is to introduce various substituents into the ring of Allium brewage. See Figure 5-1. The 1-substituent derivatives on the ring of Allium brewage can obtain the solvent dye with red and purple spectrum, especially the hydrogen in the 1-substituent amino group or alkanol amino group of Allium brewage and aromatic amino group, which can form intramolecular hydrogen bond with the group of Allium brewage, which is conducive to the improvement of performance. The important varieties are solvent red 111, etc.

There are also 1,4-diaminoscallion 2,3-disubstituted derivatives in huiniang solvent dyes. The important varieties are C.I. solvent violet 59, anthraquinone 1.5-disubstituted derivatives and anthraquinone 1,8-disubstituted derivatives. The important varieties are solvent yellow 163, etc. There are many kinds of heterocyclic solvent dyes, next to onion dyes. Heterocyclic solvent dyes have bright colors, many of which have strong fluorescence and good fastness. It is widely used in all kinds of engineering plastics and synthetic fibers before spinning. Among them, aminoketone solvent dyes are 1,8-naphthalenic anhydrides and their derivatives or phthalic anhydrides and their derivatives condense with aromatic diamines, which are generated after closed-loop. The chromatography includes yellow, orange and red. The dye has excellent light resistance and heat resistance, and can be used for coloring nylon fiber before spinning. Its important varieties are solvent orange 60, Solvent Red 135, Solvent Red 179 and pigment yellow 192. The solvent dyes of copper phthalide are only limited to yellow, and they have good light and heat resistance. The introduction of substituted alkyl or sulfonate into the molecule of copper phthalide can improve the heat resistance of the dyes, which are suitable for coloring polyester before spinning. The important varieties are solvent yellow 114, solvent yellow 33 and solvent yellow 157.

Solvent green 5 is one of the most important solvent dyes in China. Coumarin solvent dye chromatography is only limited to yellow varieties, with strong fluorescence, brilliant color, and excellent light resistance and heat resistance. Besides being widely used in plastic coloring, it is also used as fluorescent pigment raw material. Among them, the important varieties are solvent yellow 160: 1, solvent yellow 145. Thioindigo solvent dyes are reduced red 41 and pigment red 181
Solvent Red 52 and solvent orange 63 are important solvent dyes. It has good heat resistance and reducibility, and is suitable for coloring nylon 6 and nylon 66 synthetic fibers before spinning.
The main varieties of methylene solvent dyes are solvent yellow 93, solvent yellow 133, solvent yellow 179, solvent orange 80 and solvent orange 107 o
The main varieties of methylimine solvent dyes are solvent violet 49 and solvent Brown 53.
